Rida Shibli

Professor, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan

Dr. Rida Shibli is a Professor of Plant Biotechnology and Biodiversity at the University of Jordan. He was born in Mursa/Jarash on July 15, 1962. He received his education in primary and secondary schools in Jerash, Jordan. His BSc and MSc was from the University of Jordan and his PhD was from University of Illnois, USA. Dr. Rida has occupied many administrative positions and is recentle founder and dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Al-Ahliyya Amman University. He is also Executive Secretary of the Association of Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA), Jordan since 2019. Previously, he was Minister of Agriculture from June till September 2016 and was a member of the Jordan Senate since (September 2016 till September 2020). He was also the President of Mutah University, Karak, Jordan (April 2013 till June 2016). He worked at the University of Jordan as professor in the Faculty of Agriculture from 2008, and took some administrative positions such as Vice-President for Scientific Faculties and Institutes and President of the University of Jordan’s Aqaba Branch. He also worked at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid, Jordan (1990-2008) and in American Universities for post doctorate and sabbatical programs, the last one being in 2006 at University of Illinois, USA. Dr. Rida has a wide experience in plant biotechnology and biodiversity and has more than 170 scientific publications. He has many research projects funded and has supervised many postgraduate students. He participated in many professional activities and societies, steering committee memberships, and in workshops and training courses, Dr. Shibli has made many achievements in community education and has been awarded many prizes, such as the ISSECO Prize in Science and Technology (2012). He has an active life full of scientific work tirelessly from the beginning of his career till now.
